In response to your question, I currently neither spend nor earn money on Medium, and I'm not specifically interested in going down that route. In an ideal world, the platform where I publish my writing would give everyone unlimited, free access to my writing - and I have no expectation of being paid for it. (I do believe that in general people should be compensated for their labor, but my target audience here is teachers: I don't want teachers, who already make too little money, to have to pay to read my articles online.)
