It’s a phenomenon… don’t you think?

(Writing lyrics is a departure from my usual Medium fare, but I do enjoy parodizing from time to time — especially when it comes to NGSS 😉. There’s even a reference in here to the 2022 blood moon lunar eclipse taking place tonight, on 5/15/22, as I publish this post.)

Sing this to the tune of Ironic:

An old man, he looked at the date
And then he confirmed that Mars was in retrograde
It’s a black fly advancing toward his mate
It’s a hot tube of argon and a diffraction grate
And it’s a phenomenon… don’t you think

It’s like a police chase on your Doppler Effect day
It’s a low tide when you’re at Fundy Bay
It’s the lunar eclipse that happened Sunday
And who would have thought… it’s rigor

Mr. AP Physics had a lesson to try
He got two soup cans and emptied one on the sly
He placed them both on a ramp, starting at the same height
And as the cans rolled down, he thought
“Well isn’t this nice…”
And it’s a phenomenon… don’t you think

It’s like a police chase on your Doppler Effect day
It’s a low tide when you’re at Fundy Bay
It’s the lunar eclipse that happened Sunday
And who would have thought… it’s rigor

Well STEM has a funny way of sneaking up on you
When you think everything’s okay and that your model is right
And STEM has a funny way of validating your data when
You think everything’s gone wrong and everything blows up
In your face

A stalagmite when you’re not in a cave
A melted node when chocolate gets microwaved
It’s like watching a virus when you’re trying to define life
It’s data on worldwide birth outcomes
To see the effects of having a midwife
And it’s a phenomenon… don’t you think
It’s a true phenomenon… and, yeah, I really do think

It’s like a police chase on your Doppler Effect day
It’s a low tide when you’re at Fundy Bay
It’s the lunar eclipse that happened Sunday
And who would have thought… it’s rigor

STEM has a funny way of sneaking up on you
STEM has a funny, funny way of helping you out…
Helping you out
