Thank you for this piece. I have been reading and appreciating your articles over the past few months. I have a thought on the legality issue. As a science teacher at the High School for Climate Justice, I help my students reflect on their observations and analyze data in order to decide for themselves what is most likely to be true. To me, it's not ultimately helpful to legislate against those who don't operate this way. What we should do instead is teach everyone think critically and work to understand each other. I really do try to listen to climate change deniers to understand where they're coming from and talk about mutually agreeable solutions. There's often more to the story than it seems. It's not the case that we climate advocates are the only "good" people. Coming together to address the climate crisis is hard and slow work, though, so maybe the type of legislation you're proposing is a necessary stopgap, but I don't think it's the ultimate answer.
